1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that websites save on the user’s device during browsing. They are read again by the website at each subsequent visit and may perform different functions: technical functions (necessary for the operation of the website), statistical functions (traffic measurement) or profiling functions (tracking of behaviour for advertising purposes). Cookies may be first-party cookies (set directly by the website) or third-party cookies (set by third parties whose services are integrated into the website).

2. How we manage consent

The website www.synapsia.ai uses the Cookiebot platform by Usercentrics as its consent management platform (CMP). Upon first accessing the Site, the user sees a banner that allows them to accept, reject or customize their preferences by cookie category. Preferences may be changed at any time by accessing the cookie management panel available in the footer of the Site.

Technical cookies are installed automatically without the need for consent. All other cookies are installed only following the user’s explicit consent, pursuant to Art. 122 of Legislative Decree 196/2003 and the Guidelines of the Italian Data Protection Authority (provision of 10 June 2021).

3. Categories of cookies used

3.1 Necessary technical cookies (no consent required)

Strictly necessary for the operation of the Site and for browsing. They are installed automatically. They include:

  • Session cookies: they maintain the browsing status during the visit; they are deleted when the browser is closed.
  • Consent management cookies (Cookiebot): they store the preferences expressed by the user through the banner for 12 months, preventing the banner from being shown again at each visit.

3.2 Statistical cookies (consent required)

They collect aggregate information on the use of the Site for statistical purposes. The system used is Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC. The adopted configuration ensures:

  • Anonymization of IP addresses before any processing.
  • Disabling of data sharing with Google for Google’s own purposes.
  • Maximum data retention: 14 months, after which the data are automatically deleted.

Google LLC acts as Data Processor for statistical purposes and may act as an independent Data Controller for its own service improvement purposes, in accordance with its privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).

3.3 Preference cookies (consent required)

They allow the Site to remember information that changes its behaviour or appearance (e.g. preferred language). This category is configured in the consent management system, but at present no preference cookies are active. The updated list is available in the Cookiebot panel.

3.4 Marketing cookies (consent required)

Used to track visitors for advertising purposes. This category is configured in the consent management system, but at present no marketing cookies are active. The updated list is available in the Cookiebot panel.

4. Transfers to third countries

The use of Google Analytics 4 involves the transfer of data to the United States, where Google LLC is based. Such transfer takes place in compliance with Chapter V of the GDPR, on the basis of the Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC 2021) adopted by Google and the adequacy decision relating to the Data Privacy Framework (where applicable). For further information: policies.google.com/privacy.

5. Managing cookie preferences

The user may manage their preferences at any time through:

  • The Cookiebot cookie management panel, accessible via the “Cookie management” link available in the footer of the Site.
  • Browser settings, which allow users to accept, reject or delete cookies already installed.

The withdrawal of consent or the disabling of non-technical cookies does not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out up to that point. Disabling technical cookies may compromise the operation of the Site.

6. Do Not Track

Some browsers include a “Do Not Track” (DNT) function that allows users to signal their preference not to be tracked. Although this mechanism is not recognized as a valid method of expressing consent under the applicable legislation, the Site undertakes, where technically possible, to respect such preference by not installing non-technical cookies when the DNT signal is active. The user may in any case manage their preferences through the Cookiebot panel.

7. Recipients of data collected through cookies

Browsing data collected through cookies may be communicated to third parties acting as Data Processors (e.g. providers of technical and analytics services) or as independent Data Controllers (e.g. Google LLC for its own purposes). The data are not sold to third parties nor shared for third-party advertising purposes.

8. Rights of data subjects

With reference to personal data processed through cookies, the user may exercise the rights provided for under Arts. 15–22 of the GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, withdrawal of consent) by writing to: privacy@synapsia.ai. They also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (www.garanteprivacy.it).

9. Updates

10. Regulatory references

Drafted in accordance with: Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR); Legislative Decree 196/2003 as amended by Legislative Decree 101/2018; Guidelines of the Italian Data Protection Authority on cookies (provision of 10 June 2021, Official Gazette No. 163/2021).
